Can You?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I tried to setup a ssh key to use sshsf.\u00a0I&#8217;m sure plenty of people have done it and it works great.\u00a0\u00a0 I couldn&#8217;t get it to work, I blame the Synology NAS.\u00a0 There are changes and additions particular to this NAS that I couldn&#8217;t follow.  I use ssh keys to log into every pi I&#8217;ve built and re-built and have a good idea of how it should work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to take a swing, here are the resources I used:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>90% of the material is here, it&#8217;s specific to the Synology NAS.&nbsp; I think I just was missing something and couldn&#8217;t wrap my head around it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.filebot.net\/forums\/viewtopic.php?t=5992\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">[Tutorial] Mounting synology nas folders into Ubuntu via SSHFS<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These were pretty good as well<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalocean.com\/community\/tutorials\/how-to-use-sshfs-to-mount-remote-file-systems-over-ssh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">How To Use SSHFS to Mount Remote File Systems Over SSH<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kb.synology.com\/en-uk\/DSM\/tutorial\/How_to_log_in_to_DSM_with_key_pairs_as_admin_or_root_permission_via_SSH_on_computers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">How do I sign in to DSM with RSA key pairs via SSH?<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And I found these:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/unix.stackexchange.com\/questions\/548327\/authentication-refused-bad-ownership-or-modes-for-directory-root\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Authentication refused: bad ownership or modes for directory \/root<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/unix.stackexchange.com\/questions\/272264\/use-sshfs-to-mount-synology-nas\">use SSHFS to mount Synology NAS<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I chased file permissions, moving keys around, manually loading keys into authentication_keys, messing with the sshd.config file on the NAS.&nbsp; I even tried to leverage:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pimylifeup.com\/raspberry-pi-ssh-keys\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">How to Setup Raspberry Pi SSH Keys for Authentication<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How did I resolve it?&nbsp; I changes tactics and went with NFS and passwords.   It took 40 minutes to set up. Is it as secure?
